Practical Challenges in Endodontics: A focus on locating and negotiating MB2 and managing calcified canals – 7 CPD POINTS – JULY/AUGUST – CAIRNS/TOWNSVILLE/MACKAY
Two very common reasons for specialist endodontic referral include difficulty in locating the elusive MB2 canal and for treatment of teeth with calcified canals. This hands-on course has been designed for general dentists who are looking to further develop their skills in performing molar endodontic treatment, improve their understanding of and ability to identify anatomical variations, particularly in maxillary molars, and to gain confidence in approaching cases with pulp canal calcification.
This curriculum has been developed to equip attendees with the knowledge and confidence to:
- Make use of relevant pre-assessment diagnostic tools to facilitate accurate interpretation of canal anatomy and use this to guide the treatment approach.
- Understand mesio-buccal root morphology and the many possible canal variations it may contain.
- Predictably locate MB2 canals using anatomical landmarks and 3-dimensional diagnostic imaging, where appropriate.
- Negotiate and prepare MB2 canals using hand and rotary instruments in a controlled, systematic manner to minimise the risk of ledge formation.
- Understand the different presentations and aetiologies of pulp canal calcification.
- Uncover the canal orifice in calcified cases and select appropriate instruments to negotiate and fully prepare calcified canals.
